Merri Creek reflections

Someone very thoughtfully secured a three seater metal A-frame swinging chair to a large tree on the banks of Merri Creek. The location is ideal. Bare rich earth shaded by mature eucalypts trees which naturally provide ease of access to the waterway allowing dogs to bathe, children to play and adults to watch and chat. Large rocks lay a jagged path across the water to aerate the flow, creating a movement of elements very nourishing for human nervous system and creek vitality.

Open to a diversion in momentum during the early morning bush walk, let us choose the adventure and take up the invitation to pause and immerse in natural sensory input. Aware of being aware...looking out of the body, basking in the warm rays of the sun on a calm early spring morning, the birdsongs abundant in sound beyond sight. Microbiomes rich in the air such a vast contrast to the city's nearby roads and highways, although you would never know they were there. Melbourne's creek and river trails leave you feeling like you are living out bush, recharging as a human being again. Grateful to these pockets of inner city reprieve where the beauty of human care is reflected in the local council and community maintained paths, wetlands, natural scrub and sports fields. This is one element of what makes Melbourne one of the most liveable cities in the world.

The popular inner city creek trail is much quieter today than usual. In the aftermath of a massive Australian rules football grand final event held in Melbourne the day before, whether you are a sports fan or not, the celebrations in Australia yesterday were infectious. Memory reflections of joyful tears welling yesterday during a walk the back from a local market. A radio broadcast from the football ground of a music artist singing a medley of her most popular songs played in headphone covered ears. It was global master class in music production excellence where a crowd of 100,000 could be heard singing and cheering along. A moment where the best of humanity is being lived and expressed en masse, bringing about a natural joy for the gift of life. The energy of the event was felt on that walk home ten kilometres away.

Thank-you to those that arranged that swinging chair, on the Merri Creek trail, in a city of uniquely rich diversity in culture, environment, business and fair democratic government. Autonomy abounds within a relaxed and friendly population of five and a half million others, you can be and express absolutely anything you want to be.
